Recognizing Pride Month 2024

LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated annually throughout the month of June recognizing the struggles and achievements of a community striving for equality and inclusion.
LGBTQ+ stands for “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer” with a "+" sign recognizing limitless sexual orientations and genders.
Many consider the Stonewall Uprising in June 1969 to be the tipping point in the LGBTQ+ rights movement, after police raided a popular gay bar in New York City resulting in a series of protests. The next year, the first Pride marches were held in several
U.S. cities.
In the present day, this visualization — born from research published by the University of California Los Angeles — demonstrates where LGBTQ+ individuals across the United States receive legal protections in employment, education, housing, and credit. About half of U.S. states provide no legal protections for LGBTQ+ individuals.
As auditors, we can help shine a light on inequities in services and legal protections that affect the people in our communities, and we can make recommendations that lead to more equality and fairness — improving the quality of life for everyone.
